The launch of the Xiaomi SU7 EV has stirred up excitement among electric car enthusiasts, leading to a six-month waiting list as demand surged shortly after its release in China. In the initial 24-hour period, there were a total of 88,898 orders placed.
Only a couple of days following the commencement of orders for the SU7 electric sedan, the recently established Chinese firm (a branch of the tech giant founded in September 2021) reports sales figures that exceed expectations by a factor of three to five.
These statements were made by Lei Jun, the CEO of both the entire group and the automotive division, in a live streaming broadcast on a local social network known as Douyin, similar to “our” TikTok.There is an abundance of money available.
Lei Jun, addressing a virtual audience of at least 34 million viewers, expresses complete contentment with SU7’s performance and expresses optimism for the future ahead.
The cost of the innovative EV Xiaomi SU7 has been revealed and it is surprisingly affordable, given the high level of performance: in China, the base model starts at 219,900 yuan, which is around £24k based on current exchange rates, while the top-of-the-line Max model is priced at 299,900 yuan (or £33k).
Revealed in Shanghai towards the end of 2023, the Xiaomi SU7 (SU representing Speed Ultra) is set to lead an £8.9 billion investment into electric vehicles for the phone manufacturer – with ambitious future strategies in place.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, speaking at the car’s unveiling, expressed his ambition for the company to become one of the top five automakers in the world within the next 15 to 20 years, aiming to elevate China’s automobile industry as a whole through hard work. The electronics giant has a daring goal to become the world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer, holding a 12% market share.
